My child is sick. How do I let the school know?

All absences must be reported on SchoolSoft by a parent/guardian. You can report absence for a full day or individual lessons, as seen in this instructional video. We cannot report your child’s absence for you.

How can I get in touch with my child’s mentor, subject teacher, or other staff?

We recommend email. Teacher emails can be found here and other staff emails can be found here. Many teachers have phone hours and inform parents at the beginning of the term on the best method of getting and staying in touch.

Teachers may not be able to take unplanned phone calls or visits during the day due to intense teaching schedules. Please contact them directly to book a meeting.

Where can I get a Leave of Absence form?

Please contact your child’s mentor to acquire an Application for Leave. If you are unable to print the Application for Leave form you may also pick up a hard copy from Reception.

The Application for Leave must be turned in to the school no later than 2 weeks before the requested leave. The school will send an email whether the application has been granted within one week of receiving this form. Submit the form to the student’s mentor.

I need to contact my child during the school day. How do I do this?

Students are not permitted to use their cell phones during the school day. This is to not disrupt the needed focus on learning and to reduce the risk of theft as well as harassment via social media. Phones shall be placed in the cell phone boxes in the mentor classroom during school time.

If you need to speak to your child during the school day due to extenuating circumstances, please call 08-20 90 15. Administration staff will try to reach out to your child as soon as possible. Please remember that frequent interruptions to your child’s school day is disruptive not only to the child, but to other students and teachers as well.

What should my child do if they want to contact a parent during the day?

Students are allowed to call a parent or guardian at any point during the day from the Reception phone.

What are the rules on visitors?

We welcome visitors. We recommend that you ask us at least 24 hours in advance. All visitors must report to Reception, sign the visitors register, and obtain a visitor’s pass which must be displayed at all times. This pass must be returned to Reception and the visitor must sign out at the conclusion of the visit.

If you have not asked for permission in advance, we cannot guarantee that you can visit the school. We have to know who is in the school and for what reason so that teaching is not disrupted and students are kept safe.

Please make sure that visitors meet the following requirements:

  • Visitors and students alike are expected to follow IES Länna’s rules and regulations.
  • Visitors must give notice to the school at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Some visits may require the approval of the principal. It is therefore important to let us know in advance.
Is there a dress code at IES Länna?

The school is a workplace; we dress accordingly, which also prepares students for life. We show each other respect by dressing in a way that does not offend anyone. Fashion varies and personalities can be expressed, but it remains unsuitable for a workplace to show underwear, have hats on indoors and wear clothing that promotes crime, racism, violence, or drug use.

Do you follow the local municipality’s dates for holidays and vacation periods?

Yes, we generally adhere to the same schedule. In-service time will be different from school to school and is noted at the beginning of term in the school calendar. You can always check our website or SchoolSoft for dates when school is closed.

How can parents participate and help in the school?

IES Länna has an active PTA (Parent and Teacher Association). The principal regularly attends PTA meetings to ensure transparency at all levels. You can contact IES Länna’s PTA by email here.
